ITIL v3
ITIL has recently been updated (a process known as the ITIL Refresh) to create a new version of the framework: ITIL v3. The previous version was known of course version 2.

As covered elsewhere in this wiki, version 2 of ITIL comprised the following publications:
* Service Support
* Service Delivery
* ICT Infrastructure Management
* Security Management
* Application Management
* Software Asset Management
* The Business Perspective
* Planning to Implement Service Management.

ITIL v3 replaced these with the following:
* Service Strategies
* Service Introduction
* Service Design
* Service Operations
* Service Improvement

A number of other materials and support items are also being developed, not least a set of web-based products that will support authors of the main books.

In addition, specific support for the qualification scheme will be provided, via the introduction of study aids for the Foundation and other examinations.

Are the Old Books be Defunct?

The OGC clearly states that 'the existing guidance "ain't broke", so we won't be throwing much existing content away'. Hence, although they are not current, much of the content is still valid.

The Timescale?

The five new volumes were published in May 2007. Various support materials are still under development.
