Introduction To ITIL
The Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) is a set of concepts and techniques for managing information technology (IT) infrastructure, development, and operations.
ITIL is published in a series of books, each of which cover an IT management topic. The names ITIL and IT Infrastructure Library are registered trademarks of the United Kingdom's Office of Government Commerce (OGC)

ITIL VERSION 3
The current version of ITIL is version 3. This comprises five core volumes:

?Service Strategy
?Service Design
?Service Transition
?Service Operation
?Continual Service Improvement

The previous version (version 2) was replaced in May 2007.

ITIL VERSION 2
The core set of material is the following set of seven tightly coupled areas:

?The Business Perspective
?Applications Management
?Planning to implement Service Management

The Service Support, Service Delivery and Security Management manuals are regarded as the central components of the framework.
